Outreach Internships

Science Education Internship

Project overview: Mentored by NH Sea Grant and a high school science teacher, the intern will develop multimedia materials and classroom curriculum for use by middle and high school teachers and their students throughout the US.  Interns will establish a citizen science project in which middle/high school students will collect remote data for SML scientists. The intern also will participate in the teacher training program for high school teachers at SML.

Mentors: Mark Wiley (NH Sea Grant), Dr. Blaine Kopp, SML academic staff

Dates: May 29 – August 21, 2017 (12 weeks)

Stipend: $150/week

One intern will be selected, preferably one who is interested in science teaching.

Application deadline: 2017 internships are currently filled. Check back in the fall for deadlines for summer 2018 internships.


  • College freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in all majors may apply. Cornell and UNH students receive preference for internships.
  • Priority is given to students who have previously taken a course at SML.
  • Internships may fill if qualified applicants are chosen before the March 1st deadline.
  • Applicants should be prepared to upload (as separate files): cover letter, resume/CV, and unofficial transcripts.
